ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY

SGA Academy Oldham > ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY

ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY

Attendance and punctuality are essential to the productivity and success of each pupil. Attendance and progress are linear, pupils with higher attendance are expected to produce better results compared to their peers with poor attendance. Missing one day of school is equivalent to missing 5 lessons, which is 5 hours of learning. It can be difficult for pupils to catch up upon their return and increases academic, stagnating progress. Therefore, we expect 100% attendance from all pupils unless there are unwell, in such cases we expect a doctors note or proof of appointment. Exceptions to this general rule will be rare.

If there are extenuating circumstances preventing pupils from attending, or arriving on time, parents are encouraged to contact the school and speak with the school administrator. Such circumstances will be discussed with the Senior Leadership team. In case of emergencies, which require extended absences, a request of leave form must be completed and returned to the school. This form can be requested from the school reception. The requests will each be considered carefully by the Headteacher, and will be approved or declined accordingly.

We urge parents to avoid booking appointments of any kind including medical or dental appointments during school hours where possible. Pupils are not permitted to take holidays during term time, leave during term time can only be considered in cases of genuine emergencies.

Parents must contact the school by 10am if their child is unable to attend school, and must inform the school of the reasons of absence. If the school is not contacted by 10am, the absence will be unauthorised.

PUNCTUALITY

Punctuality is equally as importance as attendance. SGA expects all pupils ot arrive on time with the correct uniform and equipment. Pupils who have not arrived to school by 9am are considered late. Students who are late must report to the school admin and sign in using the late arrivals form, before entering the classroom.
