HOMEWORK

Sapience Girls Academy aims for all pupils achieve and exceed their potential. Therefore, we understand the importance of utilising homework as a tool to promote the development of learning and transferrable skills. Homework provides pupils with the opportunity to test their knowledge and consolidate their learning.

Homework is imperative to developing life-long learning habits through the promotion of independent learning and personal review. Homework allows pupils to enhance their understanding of their class work and subject curriculum. Homework is scheduled consistently, pupils will be provided with a homework timetable and homework diary to log their designated homework. The pupil diaries are also a means for parents and carers to understand their child’s progress and learning journey taking place in school, bridging the school and home gap.

Homework refers to specific tasks set by teachers requiring completion by pupils outside of school hours, as an extension or review of their learning at home. It is therefore essential that parents, pupils and staff have an agreed understanding of the requirements. Consistent homework habits encourage students to develop self-discipline, independent thought processes and individual study skills.

  • Key Stage 3: Expectation that students complete 5 to 7 hours of homework per week.
  • Key Stage 4: Expectation that students complete at least 10 hours of private study per week.

For homework to be an effective learning tool the school requires parental co-operation. You can further support your daughter’s learning by:

  • Regularly checking the student planner to see what homework has been set
  • Providing time and a quiet space away from distractions
  • Making homework a part of their daily routine.
  • Taking a positive interest and talking to your child about their assignments
  • Helping to create a ‘to do’ list and prioritising work which is due first
  • Providing positive support and guidance, but not to complete work for them
  • Insisting work is finished, and to the best of your child’s ability
  • Ensure they take regular breaks
